What We Offer

We teach and practice a type of meditation known as Mahasati meditation (“great awareness” in Pali). It is a form of Vipassana (Insight) meditation that originated in Southeast Asia. Mahasati meditation cultivates self-awareness through attention to the body’s movement and the actions of the mind in the present moment. This ultimately leads to a direct and profound understanding of the origins of suffering in human experience and points toward ultimate liberation.

While Mahasati meditation has its roots in Buddhism, it is unnecessary to accept any religious doctrine to practice. It is also possible to practice it conjointly with other forms of spiritual practice.

Meditation Programs

We have in-person meditation practice sessions every Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at the Redding Center.

To join us on Zoom, you’ll need at least a free Zoom account and the Zoom software installed on your desktop computer, tablet, or smartphone. Please make sure your microphone is muted when you join the sessions.

Meditation Retreats

Retreats are an excellent opportunity to deepen your meditation practice by allowing you to cultivate self-awareness for an extended period without distraction. We offer both offsite residential retreats and onsite weekend and one-day non-residential retreats. Our retreats are usually led by Achan Da & Achan Niphen, both ordained Thai Forest Monks and meditation masters who have been teaching for decades and practicing under Thai meditation master Luangpor Teean Jittasubho. A few beds are available for non-residential programs for people traveling from a distance.

While our retreats are conducted mainly in silence, there are also Dhamma talks and opportunities for questions and answers.
